The most beautiful beaches of the
Pelion Peninsula
The beaches of Pelion offer a variety of coves with light sand or fine pebbles, calm waters on the side of the Pagasetic Gulf, and sometimes more wavy conditions on the Aegean side. But always with clear water.
The Beaches on the East-coast
The Damouchari Bay, known from the movie "Mamma Mia," is a highlight for fans of the Swedish band Abba. The harbor of the bay served as the setting for the "Dancing Queen" scene in the film. But beyond that, the small bay offers a worthwhile stay. The restaurant "Uncle Stergios" serves delicious fish dishes. Damouchari is also the starting point for guided sea kayak tours along the coast.
The Mylopotamos Beach, located below Tsangarada, is one of the most popular beaches in the region. The large pebble beach, framed by high cliffs, features two small bars, the fish restaurant "Aggelika," and a large parking lot. In the rear area of the beach, stairs lead up to the rocks, where you can also descend to the small cove next door, where a cool stream flows directly into the sea.
For tranquility and natural beauty, Paralia Paltsi and Paralia Fakistra are recommended. However, one should be aware that the steep path down to the beach must also be climbed back up.
Other notable beaches on the east side include the long Paralia Agii Saranta, Paralia Kalamaki, or the large divided Paralia Potistika.
The west-coast Beaches
The west coast also offers enticing beaches, such as Marmaro Beach near Argalasti or Olive beach further south.
Below Affissos, there are several small beaches that are never really crowded even in the height of summer. These include the narrow Agia Thymia beach and the beach of Lefokastro.
If you want to quickly reach the water from our holiday home without driving too far, the small beach at the end of Kato Gatzea or Koropi Beach are good options. Both are sandy-pebble beaches with some infrastructure including bars and restaurants, as well as shallow water access, making them ideal for children and non-swimmers.
Beaches at the southern tip
In the southern part of the gulf, you'll find Tsatzeni Beach, which offers a view of one of the most famous postcard scenes of South Pelion: a small blue and white house against the picturesque backdrop of the Pilion mountains.
For those who prefer a quieter atmosphere, heading to Vlahorema Beach or visiting the bay of Katigiorgis is recommended. Here, there are two taverns, and we highly recommend Taverna Areti to every visitor.
Many of the natural beaches can only be reached via sandy tracks leading from the main road down to the sea. Occasionally, four-wheel drive can be advantageous in these areas.
